Kimono care

A kimono will retain it's beauty much longer with a little care and below are some simple tips.

Drying fablic

Kimono Airing

Always keep kimono dry as long term dampness will cause damage to kimono. If you store kimono in a drawer take it out occasionally and hang in a shaded area for a few hours on sunny day.

Ironing Kimono

Kimono can be ironed to smooth out creases. Set the iron at the correct temperature (see chart below) and then using a cloth between the kimono and the iron, press the affected area. Do not use steam. After ironing it is best to leave the garment to hang for a while for it to air completely.

Ironing temperatures

• 190° for cotton or linen kimono
• 140° for silk kimono
• 130° for wool kimono
• 120° for synthetic/ synthetic blend material kimono

* Please note that this is only a rough guide as each iron can be slightly different.
